Joyeux Noël

I have had the great pleasure of connecting with  French quilter and collage artist  Joelle Halgand.

She has a blog, http://matinlumineux.blogspot.com/search/label/collages

She came across my work on deviantArt, and contacted me through my website. I have the extraordinary honor of being featured on her blog yesterday.

She is a strong and courageous woman and I am lucky to have found her. Joelle has a generous heart and this reminds me of the joy and generous spirit of Christmas. Not only have I received the gift of this feature, but I have also received the great gift of friendship from this incredible woman. This reminds me of the joy, love and good will that Christmas brings

Thanks Give The Days

This weekend is the time that we name a day for what we should be doing every day. It should be an everyday thanks giving. We should say every day I am thankful I'm here. Thankful that I am here safe. Thankful for my life. Let me live it well.

What we gives thanks for varies though. Thanks for you. Thanks for me and mine. Thanks for our love. Thanks for our dreams. Whether they come true or not. Thanks for our wishes whispered in the secret hush, in the hours that we know no other.

What do you wish for?  Or do you already know what you have.  Do you know what you already have?  Are you thankful for it?   For in the quiet lives of many, lie the simple wishes of a few. A world sleeping peacefully below the stars this night.

Thanks give the days. Thanks for my days and thanks for our days.  For we live in the shelter of each other. What we hope for one another is peace.  In the shelter of each other we want to live free. In the shelter of each other do the people live.

I haven't had a chance to post this week because I found this amazing feature on  the Weebly web design.

I totally revamped my website as a result, and I personally think it looks great. More importantly, it’s easy to shop.   I am very excited to show everyone. You can go to the home page of this blog to see it.

My “Studio” (the living room)

Today I will go dress shopping with my daughter for a high school dance. It’s fun to remember those days, but I wouldn’t want to repeat them for sure. Why do we want to grow up so badly only to wish ourselves young again?

How To Alter The Space Around You

I would like to introduce you to a friend’s living room. I  am helping Sheri re-decorate her living room.  She wants my art as the focal point!  (gasp)  I am honored and thrilled by this news!  Every little step is going to be exciting!

As children, one of our first artistic expressions was to alter the space we were given. Regardless whether it was a corner of a bedroom shared by 3.

I was still poring over design magazines any free moment I got in medical school,  I had 9 subscriptions to decorating magazines, and I’ve been know to archive them and go back to them for as long as 15 years later. They were like my library of beauty.

Chairs inspire me.  I’m delighted by paint chips, they come in the most glorious rainbows.  Even when I go to hotels, I bring a scarf, some essential oils … even that pretty handbag can be part of the overall scheme.

Just depends on where you park it at the end of the day. I’ve got a purse with  big bright silk-ribbon flowers. Two of these palm sized flowers are fuchsia pink!  How could I let that go to waste?  So you can see it from my living room, hung up near the door.

I’m going to tell you a little secret … If you know how to put together a great outfit you can do this.  If you can make a lovely anything you can do this. Quilters, knitters crafters everywhere, you can do this!

Jewelers, the same principles will apply. Create color and texture and you’ll be styling!

More than just paint chips  will be our  palette … Not just pillows, whole chairs will be the pieces.
We’ll put paint on the walls, on the chairs, on the dresser, night table hutch, you name it. We can figure out how to reupholster simple chairs, slipcover anything and accessorize like the best of them.

I’ve seen one chair in a vivid hue, make a whole room different. Less stuffy, more alive.
I want to galvanize you into doing one of the these things over the next month!
You love pretty so you can do it.

The elements of a gorgeous and inviting room are many and can be changed so easily.

 Let’s fire our imaginations.

Before we see what Sheri picked, why don’t you take  a look and see which piece you might pick for your room.   Click on the home page at the top or go here http://www.kanchanmahon.com/index.html

Feeling Lost And Finding Myself

Lately I’ve been feeling lost, don’t know why.

Everything is going well, so maybe I need to re-connect with myself.

It might be good to explain who I am. I found the perfect explanation of what I’m like from the unlikeliest places, the internet. I found a description of me that perfectly expresses who I am and how I think. See if you agree.

I like to live in the world of possibilities, and I get very passionate about things. I love life, that’s my first passion. Life is a gift, and I try to live it being true to myself.

I try to be in the moment. I want to make each moment a step into what I love. It’s hard to do but I like a bit of excitement in life. I love change and new beginnings (hence all the butterflies and moths in my work).
So I think that  I may be feeling  a bit funky lately because, ironically,  I get bored with life when it’s going well.

So, now, I will go to bed, with the desire to be accepting of what Is and to find joy in stability.

My friend said something that has stuck with me for a long time ...

There are three things in life that never return. time, words and opportunities…
Three things can destroy you ... lies, pride and envy …There are three things you never lose … hope, patience and honesty ... But there are three things of greater value … family, love and friendship. Glenda Moros

Do you see why she's my bestest friend in the whole wild and wide world?

Peaches and Rose

I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and... I believe in miracles.

Flying Lessons

I recently participated in an amazing  experience.

I took an awesome, inspiring and motivating class from an artist named Kelly Rae Roberts http://kellyraeroberts.com/flying-lessons

Her writing is radiant with  wisdom and love. She is an amazing teacher and so generous of heart, that is hard to express how inspiring her words have been.

The course was filled with the spirit of sharing and it will be something I cherish for all my life.  As a teacher, Kelly Rae Roberts is both genuine and intuitive. She brought a certain sincere heartfelt wisdom to the class that is truly unique.

And incredibly I received something even more:  I met a great group of artists who continue to inspire me daily.

I have been blessed by this experience  will continue to be blessed through the community of artists who took the class with me.

Here are some of the very creative people I met as I learned to fly~
